About Us.

Our mission is to keep our friends comfortable in the spaces where they work and serve.

Who We Are.

At our core, we have the principles of a small-town shop focused on preserving family legacy. Dick Berg often advised his team to “work hard and keep smiling,” a philosophy we bring into every tomorrow.

Below you’ll find the attributes that best capture our collective philosophy and guide how we function as a team, make decisions, communicate internally and externally, hire our employees, and earn the loyalty of our clients.

Our fifty-year reputation is built on trust with those with whom we did and still do business. That, plus our relentless commitment to quality results, have facilitated our expansion to a firm that builds and maintains some of Uncle Sam’s most mission-critical infrastructure.

We are meticulous. The details matter, and we’re continually enhancing the focus on them.

The best solutions are developed through open collaboration. Also, we hold ourselves accountable, regardless of financial impact. And when disagreements arise, we are willing to make things right to preserve those relationships valuable to us.

Differences in individuals' backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences bring unique perspectives to the company, enabling a wider set of solutions to the challenges presented us by our clients and the market.

The environment in which we operate is often complex and uncertain. Rather than focusing on areas beyond our control, we choose to view these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.

We live outside the comfort zone of the typical mechanical contractor, facilitating decision-making at all levels and underwriting honest mistakes.

Our Compromise-Free Zone.

Employees making it home safely is the top priority. There is zero tolerance for conditions or behaviors standing in the way of that. LEARN MORE

At Berg’s, we are committed to reducing both our carbon footprint and the environmental impact of operations.

We are a diverse group of individuals who strive to inspire our customers, our crew, and the communities in which we serve.

Our History.

v.1

Berg Enterprises was founded in 1974 by Dick & Kitty Berg.
Forgoing a formal high school education, Dick followed his father into the HVAC industry at the age of 14. He met his bride in Phoenix, and they moved south to complete a Nogales subdivision for his employer in 1970. They fell in love with the region and never looked back. They founded their own residential HVAC company in the San Pedro River Valley in 1974.
Over the following three decades, Dick and Kitty would grow annual revenues to over $2M across Cochise County and Ft. Huachuca. Prior to their deaths in 2002 and 2013 respectively, they put food on the tables of countless Arizona families and made an indelible impact on the community.

v.2

In 2002, Dick and Kitty’s children took over operations and each assumed 1/3 equity control in 2013.
As Treasurer, Kathi Johnston managed all financial aspects of the company including A/R, A/P, payroll, general ledger, tax, and insurance, which she still does today. She started at Berg’s in 1981.
Rick Berg, served as President, building the residential division into a consistently profitable, $2M business. He continues to advise the leadership of this business today between time spent team roping in arenas across the southwest. He started with his father in 1975.
As Vice President, Mark Berg designed and ran the commercial travel effort, positioning Berg’s at the transom of 8-figure revenue. He retired in ‘22, after a storied 44 years in the HVAC industry.
Kathi’s husband, Charley Johnston, bookended 40+ years as an HVAC/R master technician at Berg’s. He worked on DoD contracts across the US, Kosovo, Jordan, and Iraq in the years between. He’s currently a technical advisor to the executive leadership team at Berg’s.

v.3

In 2021, Dick and Kitty’s grandson Tyler Johnston began advising the company on a turnaround.

His scope included financial, operational, and human assessments as well as significant overhead reduction, growth of the commercial pipeline, and the initiation of a digital and operational transformation.
In April 2022, Tyler assumed full operational control of his grandparent’s company while holding on to memories of the various low-man roles he had in the shop and field as a kid!
